March 2010 Update

The March 2010 update is now online.  For all you desktop background lovers out there, we've posted some 40 new images.

As usual, we only post images that we would use for our own computers!  Here are some favorites from the new batch.

Ice Cave (must have been cold in here)

Braid (was a fun game, makes a good background too)

Set up a Windows 7 Desktop Background Slideshow

Windows 7 desktop slideshowWe all love Windows 7.  Or most of us do.  In any case, most people will agree that Windows 7 is a major improvement over previous versions of Windows.  The overhauled user interface and the new desktop customization features are some of the best things about the new OS.  Tech savvy folks have been poring over these new features for quite a while, but many casual users may not know of the cool ways you can customize your desktop in Windows 7.

One of my favorite new features is the ability to set a slide show of backgrounds to rotate on your desktop every couple minutes.  All you have to do is copy your favorite desktop backgrounds into one folder and tell Windows to use that folder for its desktop slide show.

Follow these steps -

1) Make sure you have all windows and programs minimized

You can hit Windows Key + D to minimize all windows and programs.  Or click the clear box at the far right of your Windows taskbar.

Create a New Windows 7 Library

Windows 7 LibrariesAmong the cool new features in Windows 7 is the ability to organize your folders into something called Libraries.  Most people do not store their files in just one folder, which is good for organizational purposes.  But using Libraries is a nice way to view your related files in one place.  In Windows 7, a library is a collection of folders and directories.  The actual location of the files and folders in a library does not matter.  You can include any folder from your computer and even folders from external drives.

So let's say you just downloaded a bunch of new desktop backgrounds.  Some of the backgrounds are nature images.  Some are landscapes.  You want to save those new images into categorized folders because you like to stay organized, but you want to be able to scroll through and view all of them at once.

Here are the steps to organize those new images into a library called "Desktop Backgrounds".
